During the Sochi Winter Olympics, I teamed up with VICTORY Journal and Dave Hollander to create an animated comic chronicling the story of the historic 1976 exhibition game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Soviet Russia's Red Army Hockey team.
The match was quite contentious, as the Red Army had just mopped the floor with every other American hockey team, and the Flyers were known for their "less-civilized" style of ice fighting. The climax of the game happened with Ed VanImp lightly tapped Valeri Kharlamov on the chin with an elbow, otherwise known as The Check Heard Round the World. |
